Path of Exile 2: Farming the Trial Master Guide

Mar-24-2025 PST

Farming bosses in Path of Exile 2 has always been one of the most rewarding ways to make currency, and the Trial Master is no exception. In this guide, we'll dive deep into how to farm the Trial Master effectively, what rewards to expect, and whether or not it's worth your time and investment. To provide a realistic outlook, we also ran the Trial Master back to back 15 times, tracking both our costs and profits. By the end of this article, you'll have a solid understanding of whether farming the Trial Master is a viable Path of Exile 2 Currency-making method for you.

Why Farm the Trial Master?

There are two primary reasons to farm the Trial Master:

1. Big Ticket Items – A chance to drop league-defining items that can sell for hundreds of Divine Orbs or even a Mirror of Kalandra.

2. Sustainable Income – Various smaller loot drops that help recoup costs and keep farming profitable over time.

Big Ticket Items

Adorned Jewel: This is the main chase item from the Trial Master, with a 2% drop chance. The jewel rolls a value between 0-100% on its primary modifier, and since it comes corrupted, the roll cannot be improved with a Divine Orb. Selling this item unidentified is often the safest bet.

Market Price:

 Unidentified: ~111 Divine Orbs

Identified (Low Roll <15%): ~1 Divine

 Identified (75%+ Roll): ~160 Divine

 Perfect 100% Roll: ~1-2 Mirrors

Mahlés' Macation (Shield): This item does not drop corrupted, meaning it can be modified further. Selling it unidentified is the safest play, with a base price of ~3 Divine Orbs.

If corrupted with a third Rune Socket and a 600%+ increase to socketed Soul Cores, it can fetch upwards of 100 Divine Orbs.

Corrupted Inscribed Ultimatums: These allow players to gamble currency in a future Trial of Chaos. One particularly valuable ultimatum lets you sacrifice 3 Divine Orbs for 6 Divine Orbs if the trial is completed successfully.

How to Farm the Trial Master

Farming the Trial Master is relatively simple:

1. Acquire Three Fates: To access the Trial Master, you'll need one of each of the following:

Cowardly Fate (Dropped by the Chimera miniboss)

Deadly Fate (Dropped by the Uka Chua miniboss - most expensive Fate)

Victorious Fate (Dropped by the Plague Bird miniboss)

You can farm these in the Trial of Chaos or buy them outright from other players.

2. Complete the Trial of Chaos: After clearing the 10th floor, you'll get Soul Cores and then have the option to socket your three Fates into a special doorway to summon the Trial Master.

Defeat the Trial Master: The boss has 12 million HP, but with high DPS, it can be one-shot.

Buying vs. Farming Fates

Farming Fates: Guaranteed drop from minibosses, but time-consuming.

Buying Fates: At the time of testing, a full set of three Fates cost around 530 Exalted Orbs (~1 Divine Orb per run).

Profit Analysis: 15 Consecutive Runs

We ran the Trial Master 15 times in a row and recorded all costs and profits. Below are our findings:

Total Earnings:

Currency & Soul Cores: 12 Divine, 40 Exalted

2 Mahlés' Macation Shields (Unidentified): 6 Divine

Additional Drops (Rings, Jewels, Miscellaneous Items): 2 Divine + 100 Exalted

 Total Earnings: ~20 Divine + 180 Exalted

Total Costs:

15 Trial Master Attempts: 15 Divine (cost of Fate sets)

Final Profit/Loss:

 Net Profit: 5 Divine + 180 Exalted

Biggest Factor: We did not get an Adorned Jewel, meaning profits were on the lower end of the spectrum.

Is It Worth Farming the Trial Master?

Our testing suggests that farming the Trial Master is a high-risk, high-reward strategy. If you get an Adorned Jewel, your profits can skyrocket. However, without one, you’re mostly relying on shield drops and minor currency gains to break even.

Safer Alternative: Just Farm Trial of Chaos

One key takeaway is that the Trial of Chaos itself provided 14 Divine and 180 Exalted in our tests, while the Trial Master attempts only yielded 6 Divine. If you want consistent currency, skipping the Trial Master entirely and farming just the Trial of Chaos might be a better option.

Final Thoughts

Farming the Trial Master in Path of Exile 2 can be a profitable endeavor, but it comes with risks. If you enjoy gambling for a potential jackpot, it’s worth a try. However, for steady income, farming just the Trial of Chaos appears to be a safer choice or buy POE 2 Currency.

We hope this guide helps you decide whether or not to take on the Trial Master yourself. Good luck, Exiles!
